The Permanent Wood Foundation (PWF) system is not new, it has been successfully applied to dome construction since 1975. It is fully approved by FHA/VA/BOA and all building codes. The geodesic dome can utilize any type of foundation. We have learned that the PWF is superior to all others in terms of construction ease and affordability Consisting of 10,15 or 20 sides(depending on the dome size), the PWF foundation can be erected in less than one day, using ordinairy labor. The sections are made of 2x8 studs, on 16" centers, sheeted with 1/2" plywood. All materials are treated for below-grade use. They provide structural strength, plus excellent insulation capability. They also finish off easily, if additional space is required in the basement area.
